a suit is stained or gets dirty, the best solution is to consult
a firm specialized in dry cleaning and ironing.
However there are some effective methods for getting rid of some
stains.
Acid (e.g. vinegar, lemon
):
intervene immediately by wetting the stained zone; then wash with
soap and water.
Grass: brush using a brush damped
in milk or in pure alcohol , then wash with soap and water.
Mud: first wait for the mud to completely
dry, then brush it off.
Animal or vegetable fat: there are
specific products commonly available to treat fat stains; however
using a clean cloth, solvents like trichloroethylene, petrol,
etc, can be used to dampen the stain.
Mineral fat (machine oils, etc.):first
soften the stained area with light vegetable oil , then tampon
with solvents (trichloroethylene, petrol, etc.) and finally wash
with soap and water.
Solid fat (wax, paraffin-wax, etc.):
scrape off the excess fat, then place the stained cloth between
two sheets of absorbent paper and press gently with a hot iron,
and finally, with a clean cloth, tampon with petrol.
Ink: use the adapted products that
are available in shops; the spot can also be diluted with alcohol,
taking care to place an absorbant paper under the cloth.
Liqueur: warm water, lightly lather
with soap.
Resins: absorb the resins, tampon
with a clean cloth soaked in ammonia or alcohol.
Rust: it is adviced to use special
products for these stains.
Blood: wash with warm water.
Wine, coffee, fruit: if the stain
is still fresh and humid, cover it with talcum powder, let it
absorb and dry, finally brush; if the stain is already dry, use
warm water with soap and ammonia.
When we do these operations it is necessary to
let the suit dry naturally: never use the iron or other sources
of heat to speed up the dying.
